P.E. and Sports Funding

Specialist Coaches

We have used some of the sports funding to invest in specialist coaches. The coaches provide training for staff to help them teach PE and sport more effectively. Impact: Staff have developed the knowledge, understanding and skills required to provide the pupils with high quality PE lessons. Our pupils have been involved in taking part in high quality competitions and tournaments and some have even gone on to play for different clubs in and around our local area.

Outdoor Activities

At St Mary's we like to give our children as many opportunities as possible to experience a variety of sports and challenges Therefore, we use sports funding to subsidise the cost of outdoor adventure days in the Lake District. Impact: Our children have experienced sporting activities they would not normally have access to and have developed the relevant skills to work as a team. Some of the activities the children have taken part in are: - Paddle boarding - Ghyll Scrambling - Raft building - Canoeing - Archery

Sports Equipment

Here at St Mary's, we have purchased sports equipment and resources to help enhance both teaching and learning during PE lessons and after school clubs. With the PE funding we have recently purchased bowls equipment to enable the year 6 children learn the skills required to play this sport. Impact: This has enabled our children to develop specialist skills required to use a range of different sports equipment and it has helped them to develop the skills they need to compete in sport related activities. As a result of purchasing the bowls equipment, the year 6 children (last year - 2016) succeeded in becoming runners up in the yearly bowls tournament. We hope the Year 6's this year can achieve the same level if not win!

Transport

With the help of Sports funding we are able to hire community transport to take our children to a variety of sports competitions and tournaments. Impact: As a result, our children are able to compete and take part in a variety of sporting events across the county where they have the opportunity to put into practice the skills they have learnt.
