Below are our newsletters, please read to find out what we will be learning each term:
Country Dance Festival|
Year 1 had a brilliant time at the Country Dance Festival at the Sports Centre. They represented their school very well and were fantastic dancers.
Kings and Queens day|
The Year 1 children have had a topic day based around their Kings and Queens topic. They made their own crowns so that they could become kings and queens for the day. They also had the chance to write with a 'quill' and ink like people did in the past. Each child also designed their own coat of arms for a shield. The children's favourite part was the banquet where they got to eat like kings and queens. They even got to have red wine or white wine (lime juice or blackcurrant juice).
World Book Day|
KS1 had a fantastic time on World Book Day. The children came in dressed as their favourite characters from all kinds of books including Matilda, Funny Bones, Mary Poppins and even The Dinosaur that Pooped Christmas! They took part in a number of activities based around the 'Old McDonald' nursery rhyme. This included decorating biscuits, making paper plate sheep and chicks and decorating eggs.
Tullie House Explorers Trail|
Year 1 had a brilliant trip to Tullie House to take part in the Explorers trail. They had to be explorers themselves and explore the museum to find certain things. They got to look at the paintings, tiles and different fabrics and use their explorer skills to find shapes, patterns and objects. The children also got to have a close look at some very old objects from the Vicctorian period. They had magnifying glasses to examine the objects very carefully and they had to think about the materials they were made from and guess what they were used for.
The children loved being explorers for the day and they learnt a lot too.
Local Area Walk|
Year 1 have been learning all about where we live. To support our learning we went on a walk around our local area, Kells. We all had a map to follow and we observed all the things around us during our walk. The children really enjoyed their walk and they were very sensible.
Country Dancing Festival|
The Year 1 children took part in a Country Dance Festival on Thursday 16th June. They practised lots and lots before the event and they were fantastic! There were lots of other schools at the event and the children enjoyed watching the other schools performing the dances. The children behaved beautifully and they thoroughly enjoyed showing off their moves! Well done Year 1!
Dips and Dippers|
Year 1 have started a new D&T topic called 'Dips and Dippers' which involves them learning about and tasting food from different countries around the world. So far, we have tasted some different dips including salsa, guacamole, thousand island, houmous and sour cream. The children were all very sensible and they tasted all of the dips. The sour cream seemed like a class favourite!
Year 1 and Reception were very lucky to have Norah's Ark visit them in June. Norah brought lots of different animals including a guinea pig, a rabbit, a hedgehog, a tortoise and a barn owl. The children learned lots about all of these animals and they got to have a real close look at them. In Year 1 we will be using this visit to help us with our 'Animals' topic.
The Year 1 children visited Whinlatter recently to consolidate their learning about plants. We followed the Gruffalo trail and completed a plant hunt on the way. The children were very good at spotting different types of trees by looking at their leaves. After our plant hunt we had our lunch in the sunshine and then the children had a well deserved play on the Adventure Play Park. We had a fantastic time!
The certificates for autumn term went to two boys in Year 1! Here they are with their certificates:
