Reception is the place to be to learn how to write!
Every morning the children have a 25 minute phonic session where they practise sounding out, listen carefully for sounds and practise writing on whiteboards - the correct letters to match the spoken sounds.
To begin the children practise labelling pictures - what we call 'cvc' words for example cat, hen, dog, mop, bed, cup, box etc.
Once the children can independently and confidently label and write cvc words they then begin to learn how to write a simple caption - remembering to include a capital letter to start, finger spaces and finish with a full stop.
In class we learn how to write lists, letters, posters, diaries, descriptions and much more!
