Maths is lots of fun in Year 3!
We take part in lots of practical activities to help us learn.
Have a look at some of the activities we have been taking part in.
During our Maths lessons children use a wide range of resources to help them complete their calculations.
In Maths Year 3 pupils are working hard to learn their 3, 4, and 8 times tables and the associated division facts. Pupils practise these on a regular basis in lessons and are tested on a daily basis. Everyone is working hard to beat their previous score!
Every half term children are given a new Maths Target based on the KIRFS scheme. As part of their homework children are required to work on their target and they have Target Time in class to demonstrate their understanding of this. To help pupils learn these key facts they play lots of games.
On Wednesday children have a special 'Mathletics' slot where they work on the computer. Mathletics is a web-based learning program that integrates home and school learning via the internet.
Recently in Year 3 we have been learning how to use the column methods for addition and subtraction to work out change. We used our class shop to buy things and worked out the calculations. Sometimes we bought a few things to make our working out more challenging! We also used the coins to show the amount of change we had. It was great fun!
