Writing is an integral part of every day in our class. We have an integrated, cross curricular approach to writing and often develop our writing skills through other subjects. This gives us a purpose for writing, making it meaningful and worthwhile. Our work is celebrated on classroom and corridor displays.
Throughout all writing, we think about grammar, punctuation, spelling and presentation as well as the overall composition and effect of each piece. We have differentiated marking ladders for each piece of writing which are provided for us but we also contribute to. These provide us with a checklist for success and allow us to ensure we are focused on what is needed for each specific genre.
We enjoy self and peer assessing our writing, supporting each other in finding areas to improve our work even further. When Miss Martin marks our work, we act on areas we are asked to develop or improve during improvement time.
Every week, we have a class ‘Writer of the Week’ who gets to wear the coveted yellow jumper in recognition of their achievements in writing. We also have a class ‘Spelling Star’ who has shown most effort in learning and applying their spellings.
