Year 2 - Helping your child
Helping your child with work this term
Geography/History
Our topic this term is 'The Great Fire of London'. The children will be learning about how and why the fire started and spread with such speed. They will think about how people might have escaped the fire, and what was done afterwards to prevent such a disaster happening again.
Literacy
Encourage the children to find rhyming words and play with sounds. When helping them with homework could you please remind them about their presentation and handwriting. Talk homework will be sent home the night before our ‘Big Write’ so please help the children with this. They shouldn’t write anything down, but talking it over with an adult really does help their work the next day.
Please try and read with your child as much as possible. Research shows that children who read often at home, and are read to regularly by an adult, make greater progress in their reading and understanding of texts.
Numeracy
Talk about time with the children. Can they tell you the time on a digital or analogue clock? Can you ask them what time it will be in two hours or what time was it three hours ago etc?
Let the children play with money. Can they count up what it is in your purse? Can they give the right money for items or work out change? Do they recognise all the coins we use?
