What’s Happening in Afternoon Nursery…
‘Little Chef’ Wednesday
We have recently started our ‘Little Chef’ sessions on a Wednesday where children have the opportunity to help make their own snacks. We use the staff room for our ‘Little Chef’ sessions where we help to make various different snacks each week. We talk about the importance of washing our hands before we handle and make food. We have also started to discuss what our favourite foods are. Our first session was making chocolate covered marshmallows and banana on sticks and they went down extremely well! Please click on the photographs to see what we got up to.
We loved celebrating Pancake Day down in afternoon nursery! We even made our own pancakes then had them for our afternoon snack! All children helped to make the pancakes and we talked all about which ingredients we needed and how we were going to make them. Everyone tried the pancakes which was super and lots of us had seconds… and thirds! Why not take a look at how we got on? Just click on the picture below.
We had lots of fun making Valentine’s crafts to take home for someone we love. We talked about Valentine’s Day and the special people in our lives that we love and that love us back. We then had a fun Valentine’s disco with lots of funky singing, dancing and party games!
Chinese New Year
We really enjoyed learning all about Chinese New Year! We made dragon masks and Chinese fans and talked all about the different things that some Chinese people do to celebrate Chinese New Year. Children loved listening and dancing to the Chinese music. We even tried some Chinese food and had a Chinese New Year party where children wore their dragon masks and danced to some traditional Chinese music. Please click on the photographs to take a look at some of our wonderful dragon mask designs.
Let’s get physical!
We enjoy lots of activities that promote our physical development throughout the afternoon. This involves indoor and outdoor play where children have the opportunity to develop their fine and gross motor skills. Every week we have our ‘PE’ afternoon, this includes various games and challenges for children to take part in. Children have really enjoyed our ‘animal parade’ game where we pretend to be various different animals by moving and controlling our bodies. We have also been enjoying throwing and catching using the bats and beanbags in the outdoor area.
This term we have welcomed our afternoon nursery friends. All the children have settled in wonderfully with the help of their new 30 hours friends from Morning Nursery. We have lots of fun and our afternoons fly by! Children have settled really well into nursery life and follow the class rules and routine brilliantly. Our afternoons are planned to allow every child to have the experience, support and opportunities to learn, play and have lots of fun! We include lots of singing, story times, indoor and outdoor play to ensure children are getting the best start! We have an afternoon snack everyday where we come together as a class to sit down and enjoy a healthy snack. This gives children the opportunity to relax and chat about their afternoon and what they have been busy doing. Take a look at how well we settled in by clicking on the picture below.
