Reception's Poetry Basket Assembly!
Reception - Learning all about Nigeria!
A huge thank you to Angelo’s Daddy for visiting Reception to talk to us all about the African country of Nigeria where his family are originally from. We found the continent of Africa on the globs and then the country of Nigeria within it.
He shared lots of wonderful pictures and taught us lots of interesting things - information about the weather, food, families, weddings, clothes, houses, plants and animals in Nigeria! We loved how he wore his traditional clothing and hat from the Igbo tribe which his whole family are part of.
The children then asked lots of questions that we had thought of and Angelo’s Daddy kindly answered them all.
The children loved chatting with and learning from Angelo’s Daddy.
The children in Year 2 have been learning about Victorian seaside holidays. They had a day were they dressed up as Victorians and made a picnic that they could take to the seaside. They made a Victoria sponge from scratch and it tasted divine!
The children at St. Mary's School went over to church to help weed the grounds. They did a very impressive job and Father Kevan was very pleased with the results.
We had a brilliant afternoon, with incredible support from parents, family & friends. Even the wet weather at the end didn't stop us from having fun!
Local author Helen Haraldson spent a day in school working with the children in Years 2, 3, 4, 5 & 6. Everyone had a fantastic time and Helen inspired some very creative writing during her visit. Lots of children bought Helen's books at the end of the day and she sent us a lovely letter after the visit.
Reception's Visit to Whitehaven Fire Station
Children across school were asked to find an unusual place to read a book as part of our 'Reading for Pleasure' work. We were amazed where some children found to read!
The children in Year 2 visited the Salvation Army. They found out that it is both a church and a charity. They could see many similarities with their own faith.
The Year 6 Bright Stars shared road safety and water safety advice posters with the other classes and handed out ice pops at playtime.
The children also enjoyed a non-uniform day to end our mental health and well-being week. Everyone was invited to wear something that makes them happy!
Reception perform the National Anthem using Makaton!
There were lots of activities in school to celebrate the coronation of King Charles III. We had a non-uniform day and everyone dressed in red, white and blue. The kitchen staff provided a special lunch of chicken nuggets & chips followed by 'coronation' cupcakes and there was lots of crown-making and other arts & crafts in the classrooms.
A team from Years 5 & 6 represented the school at a swimming gala at Copeland Pool with other local Primary children. The events included individual swimming and relay races, diving competitions, retrieving objects from the bottom of the pool and sculling. The gala was lots of fun and our team did a brilliant job in all of their events.
PCSO Colette Harrison visited school, with some police colleagues, to welcome our new mini police recruits. The pupils from Years 4 & 5 wrote application letters and were interviewed for the role, before being presented with their uniforms and caps in assembly.
During our end of term assembly children from each class were awarded certificates for either 'Effort', 'Achievement' or 'Ethos'. Congratulations to the Spring Term winners!
Lots of children have attended school every day since the beginning of term in January. Well done to all those with 100% attendance - keep it up!

Well done to the winners and everyone who entered the competition.

Everybody had great fun today playing wheelchair basketball with Nat and Jack from NP Inclusive Sport. We learned some new skills and scored lots of baskets.
We had a fun-filled World Book Day with children and staff dressing up as favourite story characters. The children took part in lots of activities including making fruit salad, manoeuvring BeeBots, making farm animal masks, baking chocolate cakes and junk modelling.
We celebrated National Storytelling Week and finished off with a fun day where we dressed up as book characters. The costumes were amazing and we had loads of fun! Mrs Davidson read 'Trust Me, Mum!' by Angela McAllister in assembly and the children helped with actions and sound effects. We even had a visit from a Very Hungry Caterpillar.
EYFS and KS 1 children performed the Nativity story in school and the KS 2 classes held a Carol Service in St Mary's Church. Lots of parents, family members and parishioners supported us by coming to see the services and all the children read and sang beautifully!
