Year 5 recently visited Stocks Wood Outdoor Centre, they participated in many exciting and engaging activities, that link to their current classroom topics. The 'real life' experiences consolidated their prior learning and knowledge of forests, life cycles and the different animal species. The children learned about the similarities and differences between a British forest and the Amazon Rainforest, which is our current topic. They discussed the different layers of the forest and what can be found within each layer. They participated in 'pond dipping' to look for amphibians and fish, discussuing their features. The children had a fabulous time, toasting marshmallows, creating their own 'tiny fire' using 'fairy fluff' and playing hide and seek in the woodland. It was a fabulous opportunity and experience, that they loved!
