Year 1 Phonics Screening Check Information

All children in Year 1 take a statutory test in the summer term, to asses their ability to decode words, using phonics. Children are required to decode a list of real and nonsense words, by sounding the words out and blending the sounds to read the word. This is called the 'Year 1 Phonics Screening Check'. If the children do not pass the check in Year 1 they then retake it in the summer term of Year 2.
