The children in Year 5 were invited to a football tournament organised by some very talented apprentices from Gen 2. The event was very well organised and all of the children thoroughly enjoyed their morning. They were even more delighted when they were awarded with a trophy for being the most determined team.
D & T
As part of our ‘Water’ topic the children have been tasked with researching, designing, building and amending unsinkable boats. At the end of this half term, the children will have the opportunity to test out their boats. Here are the children hard at work during the research and design process.
In Year 5 our topic in Science is Earth, Sun and Moon but before we can begin to understand the relationship between the 3 the children needed to understand how our solar system is made up. To help them deepen their understanding the children researched the solar system and then created 3D models. Take a look at the end product.
As part of a ‘water’ topic this half term we were very lucky to have United Utilities come in and teach us all about:
Where water comes from
How water gets to where it needs to be
the natural and human water cycles
What can be flushed away and what can’t.
Take a look at the mini experiment we carried out to find out what can be flushed away and what can not be flushed away.
On Wednesday 19th December the children completed their 6 weeks of art with a visit to the Keswick Pencil Museum. Here are some of the finished pieces of art work from their visit.
Tullie House – The Tudors
Year 5 have been learning about the Tudors and thoroughly enjoyed a trip to Tullie House to learn about the Tudor way of life. They learnt about their clothes, their lifestyle and how the Tudor times were different to ours.
The Creation Story
Year 1 and Year 5 have been learning about the creation story. To help the year 1’s develop a deeper understanding of the creation story Year 5 created some decision making board games for them to come and play. All of the children involved had a great time and they learnt a lot. Take a look at what they got up to.
