RE Curriculum
Christ and His teachings are at the heart of all we do in school. We strive to offer children every opportunity to deepen their faith by learning and living the Catholic faith on their spiritual journey through our school.
Through our carefully planned RE curriculum, we aim to guide the children to become religiously literate young people who have the knowledge, understanding and skills to think spiritually and theologically, and who are aware of the demands of religious commitment in our everyday lives.
Religious Education is a core subject in our school and is taught for at least 10% of the weekly timetable.

Religious Education Curriculum Directory 2012-2025:
In Years 5-6, our Religious Education curriculum is based on the delivery of the RE Curriculum Directory, supported by the 'The Way, the Truth and the Life' Catholic Primary Religious Education Programme, which guides the teaching and learning of Religious Education throughout the school. Our RE curriculum enables the children to explore key questions of life from the Christian tradition and how to put what they have learned into context.
Religious Education Directory - To Know You More Clearly 2025:
In line with the Diocese of Lancaster support for planning; our EYFS, Year 1, 2, 3 and 4 classes will deliver their Religious Education curriculum based on the delivery of the new RED. In Year 1, 2, 3 and 4 this will be supported by the 'Vine & Branches' Catholic Education Publication. All pupils will be invited to encounter Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ as the living person at the heart of their study in a way that respects their individual religious identity.
As an integral part of our RE curriculum, we also work closely with our local Parish to prepare liturgies and we value the partnership between home, school and parish and the wider community.
We strive to make our lessons and experiences in RE as memorable and enjoyable as possible for our pupils - the children tell us that they love their RE lessons, and this is evident in every classroom and around our school.

Purpose and Aims of our RE Curriculum
The primary purpose of Catholic Education is the step by step study of the mystery of Christ, the teaching of the Church and its application in daily life, therefore the principal aims of the school in terms of the Religious Education which it provides are:
- to lead the children to a deepening knowledge and understanding of the Catholic Faith.
- to provide opportunities for the children to develop a loving relationship with God and their neighbour.
- to encourage children to respect and be fully aware of the needs of others as equal members of God’s creation.
There are many opportunities for all children to explore their faith and deepen their relationship with Christ. This includes daily acts of worship, weekly assemblies, regular classroom/parish based liturgies and celebration of Mass. Our Parish Priest, Father Kevan Dorgan, works in full partnership with the school in supporting and enhancing the education and formation of our children.
Bringing our RE Curriculum to Life
We enrich our RE Curriculum throughout the year by introducing special, planned events to bring the children's learning to life.
Margaret Wright visits us regularly in school, to lead interactive workshops and sessions linked to scripture relating to the liturgical year. These days are eagerly anticipated by our pupils, who always really enjoy and embrace their days working with Mrs Wright. These days include opportunities for drama, singing, art, reflection and worship.
We also use 'real life' contexts to make the learning relevant for the children, for example when the children in Year 3 celebrate a 'baptism' and Reception acted out the Stations of the Cross using the cross made by Mr Murphy
We also use art and design to further enrich our RE curriculum, with children demonstrating and exploring their learning in RE through the use of multi-media art work.
